Dr. Wendy Koppel grew up in a small town in Arkansas, attended veterinary school in North Carolina, and eventually settled in Oregon after graduating in the 1990s. Her career has taken many interesting turns. She began in small animal general practice before stepping away to help run an educational multimedia and film business. During that time, she traveled the world creating training videos and documentary films, even spending a year in Zimbabwe working on an elephant conservation project.
While working in media, Dr. Koppel stayed connected to veterinary medicine by co-founding the PAW Team, a nonprofit that provided free, MASH-style outdoor clinics for pets of people experiencing extreme poverty or homelessness in Portland, Oregon. When her multimedia career came to a close, she purchased a small animal housecall practice in Salem, Oregon, where she discovered her love for the personal and meaningful connections that come from caring for pets in their homes.
Dr. Koppel is excited to now bring that same compassionate, home-based care to families through HomewardVet in the western Portland Metro area.
